I am planning to go into Zoology?

As of now I have changed my major to focus on Zoology. I am planning to graduate with a biology degree/ wildlife biology degree and then obtain a masters/doctorate in Zoology. I am interested in big cats and primates. I live in Spokane WA, and the only thing here that we have is Cat Tales. I am currently working on getting on as a volunteer there, however I will only be allowed to do maintenance/ construction, but still sounds amazing. Would this be a good place to start, and then next summer look into possibly trying to intern at Seattle Zoo or someplace else?
