What kinda pet should i get?

I currently have a small dog but he never comes in my room, I have came across extra time lately and want to buy a new pet, i am looking for something more exotic or just different, more along the lines of a inexpensive small primate or something small and has fur, i had hamsters before but i am looking for something smarter and slightly bigger, i do not know much about animals but i could learn but for now i need some ideas for a new pet. i was looking at a axolotl earlier but not sure cause i want a animal that will be smart and remember me, not like a fish. and also something that wont always smell bad! any ideas?
