Hi fellow seniors, were the cartoons we used to watch in our youth too violent?

It seems violence is what they revolved around. Whether it was Popeye trying to save Olive Oyl or Tom after Jerry, violence was a key player. Was it to violent, no more than todays video games. A lot less I believe.
